331/366
It was a very defensive game today for the 8th grade Golden Eagles basketball team. Up against a tough team in Peter's Township Middle School. KO came home with the win, 37-31. Nice job boys!
He shoots....he scores!

It's a start......
330/366
I think this is the longest I have ever had a tree and it remains naked....so I had to put a little something on it. This weekend tree, this weekend.
All is merry and bright.

Initiation!
328/366
One of the initiations when you join the KO Marching Band is to be baled during Tree Sales. It's worth the $1.00 to watch these kids run around (or try) baled like a Christmas Tree. More often than not, most kids do it at least once every year because it's fun!
Here's to another successful tree sale!

Tree Sales.....
327/366
Today kicked off the KO Marching Band's Annual Tree Sale Fundraiser. The lot is full and I think I will be back in the daylight tomorrow to pick out our tree.
C'mon down and support the kids in the band and their trip to Disney!

No Martha Stewart
325/366
No special china even though I have it. No fancy tablecloth. My gravy boat doubles as my measuring cup. We didn't even have napkins in the house, but we gave the paper towels a fancy fold. And don't you just love our centerpiece? That was Shannon's addition to the table....LOL
But you know what we did have? Family time. Laughter. Good food. Great company and a whole lot to be thankful for!
That's what's really important this Thanksgiving and every day.

Nap Time.....
324/366
I am putting it out there right now. At some point tomorrow I will be horizontal with my head on this pillow, totally stuffed and full of tryptophan.
Just saying.....

I'll Take That.....
323/366
Another W in the books for the KO 8th grade boys basketball team. A double digit blow-out today against Ft. Couch MS (black). The man of the hour (or 24 mins) was Mark Hutchin who just seemed to have his hand on the ball whenever he was on the court. I overheard his Mom say he wasn't feeling well and almost did not come to school today. Well, if this is how you play when sick.....damn!

Eagle Court of Honor
321/366
Today we celebrated Antonio Casadei as he achieved the rank Eagle Scout. The 58th Eagle Scout to come out of Troop 23 in Dormont. Friends, family, scouts and local dignitaries joined us for the celebration. This is truly an honor as only 5% of all Boy Scouts achieve this rank and tonight we had 10 Eagle Scout in attendance.
After all ceremony and before the feast, we took a few moments to gather Antonio and his family for some memory making. A Scout does not achieve this rank alone. He has the love and support of his family, the one he is born into and the one he chooses in his Troop. Through service projects, merit badges, rank advancements and leadership positions, his family is there for him. I was honored to be asked to take the family photograph tonight.
Good luck to Antonio as he spreads his wings and soars to new heights. May the high goals that lead him to this achievement continue to inspire you in the years ahead.
This rare achievement is an honorable reflection of your courage, hard work, loyalty, service and leadership.

Life Is Uncertain......
320/366
Sometimes you just have to eat dessert first. It might have been 4 hours before dinner, but when you visit Sarris in Canonsburg, you have to have some ice cream.
Strawberry cheesecake and deep dish apple pie with caramel sauce for Dan. Strawberry cheesecake and chocolate with chocolate shell for Shannon and coffee and double chocolate with hot fudge for me.
And yes, that's what Sarris calls 2 scoops!
I want to have a good body but not as much as I want dessert!

The Bench - November
318/366
I finally had the time to stop by and photograph Dena's bench. She changed the sign shortly after election day and I have to say, this is spot on!
When the bench speaks, you should listen.

He Shoots.....
317/366
He scores! 3rd game of the season and the first home game for the KO Middle School 8th grade team. Quite the nail biter as the score was tied or less than a 2 point spread until the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. We did bring home the win 25-21 and improved to 2-1.
I am glad they only play 6 minute quarters. Not wanting to miss any of the action, I could end up taking upwards of 1000 photos!
Dribble, shoot, rebound, score!

Waning Super Moon
316/366
Day 1 post Super Moon and I finally had the time to take a shot. I was actually thankful that I had to go back outside to get Sarris candy out of my car because the cloud cover made the moon much more interesting.
Sometimes, it's worth the wait.
The sun sees your body, the moon sees your soul.

Ohana.....
314/366
Ohana means family. One of those words that has stuck with me through the years. Today I had the pleasure to meet a friend and her family for the first time. We met through Facebook and I have felt as if I have known them for years. I also had the pleasure of being introduced to her brother and his family. It was a wonderful afternoon spent enjoying the beautiful day that Mother Nature provided and making memories in front of the camera.
Heather, thank you for asking me to capture these moments. I hope that you smile every time you look at them, I know I have.
This was one of my favorites (so far.....)
The love of a family is life's greatest blessing.

Fly Like An Eagle.....
313/366
Today was a day filled with Seniors and once again, Mother Nature blessed us with beautiful weather. A little brisk at 10:30 this morning but the sun and blue sky more than made up for it. I ventured up Rte 28 to Washington's Landing for my first shoot. Then hopped around Green Tree for my second shoot and it was off to Dormont Stadium for the 3rd shoot with KO Senior Nate Galasso.
Nate is a lineman for both the offense and defense on the Golden Eagle Varsity football team and in the Spring he is a member of the Varsity Track and Field team, where his events are discus and shot put.
I will admit, that I was a little leery about our shoot today. Last night ended the season for our Golden Eagles football team and was the final game for the Seniors. While there wasn't a whole lot of smiling, Nate held his head high. This was the best season of football I have seen in a long time and I thanked him for that. Football was fun again at KO and it could not have happened without every single young man on that roster.
So before we left the stadium, his Dad asked if the keys I had would get us into the locker room. Well having never been in the locker room, I said "let's try" and we were in! We were able to shoot right at his locker and before we exited, not to be outdone by Dad, Mom had her own photo idea. Tricia, great idea. I loved they way this came out.
What feels like the end is often the beginning.

The Chaperone.......
312/366
Today was the first time in 4 years of Marching Band that I chaperoned an event. The Pittsburgh Veteran's Day parade was not moved this year to a weekend day so available chaperone's were few and far between. I tossed my hat in the ring and off we went!
I learned very quickly why I don't do this......the bus ride is a killer. However, to spend the day my daughter and all her band mates was well worth the motion sickness from the back of the bus! These kids had so much fun and made me proud and the whole KO community!
We had fun today but we never forgot the meaning of today and that without our Veterans, a day like this would never happen.
This nation will remain the home of the free so long as it is the home of the brave.

Landslide
311/366
Tonight was opening night of the Keystone Oak's Variety Show. One of my favorite KO events as I am always blown away by the many talents the students of KO have. Tonight we were treated to Shakespeare, the Drum Line, dancing, singing and laughter. Monster, Clap, Danny Boy and Hallelujah. One of my favorites was Landslide with Joe Hommrich and Sam Trehy. Joe on vocals and Sam on acoustic guitar and the duo was fabulous. It also allowed me to photograph two members of the Marching Band that get buried in the back when they are on the field.
Thank you Joe and Sam for this Fleetwood Mac treat.....I had forgotten how much I loved this song.
Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
And I'm getting older too

Sometimes, You Just Need to Indulge
310/366
Gray and rainy day and most of it was in front of a computer. By the time I got to 10:15pm and realized there was no photo, it was time for a treat.
My head says go to the gym but my heart says eat more ice cream!

We Get By With a Little Help From Our Friends.....
309/366
No political talk tonight. Just thought I would share a photo from today's shoot with KO Senior Aliciea Scott. She had a little help from friends today so we thought it only fitting that they get in the last photo of the afternoon.
No friendship is an accident.

Playing With Fire!
307/366
Inspiration comes in many ways and today it was in an email as I was grabbing a bite to eat before shooting KO Senior Zach McKay. A quick text to his Mom to bring old drum sticks, a stop at Rite Aid for a lighter and google search for flammable household items. LOL
Our day was beautiful and shooting around the Whiskey Rebellion building in South Park was fantastic. Great light and we still had pockets of colors to enhance the photos but the best part was yet to come.
Quick jaunt over to Hundred Acres Drive to one of my favorite areas in the park. A semi-circular walled drive that offered colors, sun and great shady spots, perfect for some flaming drum sticks!
And I love having Seniors that are willing join in my photo experiments!
The only pictures worth making are the ones that are playing with fire.

The Point
306/366
So many different spots around the city today and my camera was busy. My last photo task of the day started at the West End Overlook which is one of my two favorite places to photograph our beautiful city. It was stunningly, beautiful day that just screamed to be photographed.

Another exciting night at Dormont Stadium as our Golden Eagles faced off against the Apollo Ridge Vikings. A perfect night for playoff football and for a win! 56-20 was the final score as we moved one step closer to Heinz Field.
I couldn't pick just one photo tonight,,,,,and it's my blog so I don't have to but what a way to end the final home game of the season with our Seniors. Can't wait for next week. Bring on Beaver Falls!

Leaves on Thursday
304/366
That beautiful tree from Tuesday is shedding her ruby, red gown. Watching my neighbor Dan attempting to keep up with the leaf clean-up is almost amusing. Me, I would wait till they all fell......
How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.

302/366
I had to get a shot of my favorite tree. This beautiful lady in red sits in the yard of my neighbors and I find a way to capture it every Fall as it's color is just stunning. I almost don't mind the leaves that end up in my yard because I start every day with this beauty!
